"Introspection" 2015
Oil on Linen
111x137cm

Includes new paintings for the show, "Introspection" is from a photo I took in New York when I was there almost 10 years ago, and the model is "Lauren" from a photoshoot about 12months ago I did in my home town of Adelaide. The images married perfectly to produce this work. It SOLD straight away, which was a wonderful positive affirmation of the success of the image.

If you are in New York, get along and see the show!

"Disconnected" exhibition at Brenda May Gallery Sydney 25 February to 22 March 2014

My latest work can be seen at Brenda May Gallery Sydney in my solo show Disconnected.

All is always now2014

My work derives itself from my personal experiences and observations as a woman in Contemporary Australia. I have chosen the filmatic stage to portray my characters, making my own version of Noir - my Femme Noir. The characters in my paintings often appear disassociated in their environments; there in physicality but removed and mentally detached, existing in their own worlds. Women stare into space, involved in their private lives, housed in their own environments. Here there are pristine interiors, with patterned walls and floors, whilst the shadows play with the psychological presence of people inhabiting the scenes.

You can see an online catalogue to the exhibition here Issuu Online Catalogue

The Surgeon 2013
Oil on Linen
122x112cm

Have been working on this portrait of my Great Uncle Dr Donald Beard for quite awhile now in between my other commitments.  Have decided say it is finished eventhough I could keep working on it...it is always difficult to know when to stop...but stop I have. The image will be in the forthcoming publication from Wakefield Press called the 'The Diggers Doctor' due to be released April 2014. At this stage there will be a launch of the book by General Peter Cosgrove at SA Government House, which is all very exciting!

Pensive

"Pensive" 2013
Oil on Linen
61x63cm

Here is the first of my new paintings for my solo show at Brenda May Gallery, Sydney Australia, which opens February 25 2014. Am very happy to be showing in Sydney after several years of absence and even more happy to be showing with Brenda May.

This image is created from some of the things in my collection. My old 19thC Danish couch, a 1940's table, the cushion is a modern and from Laura Ashley and on the table is a 1950's Barsony Figure which belonged to a great aunt. The model is a local girl involved in the Vintage industry here, she is very beautiful but sometimes seeing the whole isn't mysterious and making this composition cut before the shoulder line makes you wonder. It takes me a long time to set up these works and such a long time to paint, I am at the stage where I want to make quality not quantity. I want to have something to say and not just for the sake of being.

Hope you enjoy the image. Until the next time....

Femme Noir Exhibition Catherine Asquith Gallery Melbourne

"Homecoming" 2012
Oil on linen
122x142cm

My latest work from the studio will be exhibited in a solo exhibition called "Femme Noir" at Catherine Asquith Gallery, Melbourne.  The show opens on the 16th October and closes November 3 2012.

Its has been a very hard yard this year to achieve this exhibition, from the moment I began to use local models on site in bars and nightclubs around Adelaide meant that my time from idea to completion of a painting has expanded about 10 fold. So I only have a handful of paintings to show for my hours that I've neglected my friends and family for all these months but I do feel like I have achieved something with the path of painting before me, lots to explore and an infinite number of models and situations to paint.

The Observer

"The Observer" 2012
40.5x56cm
Oil on linen

This painting will be shown in my exhibition "The Dissociated" in August 2012 at Beaver Galleries, Canberra.

Artists Statement

My most recent work continues on from my exploration of the genre of Film Noir, primarily as the vehicle to express my thoughts and observations of human interactions.

The figures in my paintings often appear disassociated in their environments, there in physicality but removed and mentally detached, existing in their own worlds. Women stare into space involved in their private lives, housed in their own environments, and at other times looking out in the nightscape.

Pristine interiors, marbled walls with patterned floors, as the shadows play with the psychological presence of people inhabiting the scenes. The imagined reality of the viewer is sometimes taken to the dark side, however as a frozen image we are left lingering for more clues.

In the moonlight, or dazzled by the city nightlights, what the night will bring, contemplation of the hour of culmination as thoughts of one’s life’s endeavour pass. Here the world appears different, small things become magnified as the droning sound of daily existence fades and the sounds of the night take over.
